Overview

PFM needed to modernize a complex wealth management platform serving public finance clients and institutional investment users. The existing portal supported critical account activity—reporting, transactions, statements, and client communication—but had become difficult to navigate and increasingly constrained by legacy interface patterns.

PFM partnered with Perpetual to simplify, redesign, and implement a modern investment portal experience. The goal was to support multiple investment models—including Managed Accounts, Hybrid Accounts, and Pool Accounts—while expanding client self-service functionality and creating a flexible front-end architecture that could adapt to different end-client brands.

Outcome

The project delivered a redesigned wealth management platform that made complex financial workflows easier to navigate, manage, and complete. The new experience replaced dense legacy screens with a cleaner interface, clearer navigation, improved dashboards, streamlined transaction flows, and more intuitive access to statements, documents, activity history, notifications, and secure contact forms.

The final product gave PFM a more modern, flexible investment portal that could support multiple client experiences, investment models, and brand variations. By combining a cleaner user interface with improved self-service workflows, the platform made it easier for financial advisors and end customers to navigate complex account activity, complete transactions, and access key information with greater confidence.

Testimonial

Perpetual is organized and accurate, and they constantly challenge the client’s ideas to help find the best solution: they are courageous and challenge the status quo. Everyone involved in the project has given positive feedback to Perpetual on their work quality and their team’s demeanor, approach, knowledge, and experience. We’ve had very solid feedback so far.

Approach

For PFM, we followed a full product design and development process—from discovery and product definition through design, front-end architecture, implementation, QA, and launch support.

We began with research and strategy, including stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, creative brief development, and roadmap creation. We then moved into UX and product definition, developing user stories, user flows, sitemaps, and wireframes to clarify how different users would navigate account dashboards, transactions, reporting, documents, and organizational settings.

Once the core product structure was defined, we designed the full site experience and created animated prototypes to validate the interaction model. In parallel, the development team defined technical requirements, created the front-end architecture, set up state management and middleware for API integration, and established server environments and CI/CD pipelines.

The final implementation translated the approved designs into a React.js application with reusable components, routes, pages, state management, and API integrations. Throughout the project, Perpetual supported visual and functional QA, development enhancements, client UAT, and launch readiness.

Portal Modernization
Simplifying a complex investment experience

The platform redesign transformed a dense legacy portal into a more intuitive digital experience. Updated dashboards, clearer navigation, streamlined account views, and improved information hierarchy helped users access balances, activity, reports, statements, and account details with less friction.

Transaction Workflows
Making self-service actions easier to complete

A major focus of the redesign was improving transaction flows across account types and investment experiences. The new interface made actions such as ACH purchases, redemptions, wire purchase notifications, transfers, and stop payment requests easier to initiate, review, and manage through clearer forms, modals, labels, and confirmation patterns.

Flexible React Architecture
Building a scalable front-end foundation

The final product was implemented as an autonomous React.js application designed to support multiple client experiences and brand variations. With reusable components, API integration, state management, and CI/CD setup, the platform gave PFM a stronger technical foundation for maintaining and extending the portal over time.

Impact
Creating a modern foundation for public funds wealth management

The project helped PFM shift from a legacy portal experience to a modern investment platform built for clarity, flexibility, and self-service. Improved navigation, account visibility, transaction workflows, and client communication tools made it easier for users to manage complex public funds investment activity.

The modernized platform gave PFM a digital experience that felt more aligned with the sophistication of its wealth management offering. Clients were able to see a clear step-change from the legacy portal: a cleaner interface, more intuitive workflows, and a more polished experience for managing complex public funds investment activity.

Beyond the visual transformation, the platform created a flexible foundation that could support multiple end-client brands, investment models, and future product growth.
